About
The background remover that does not want your photos
Every other tool in this category asks you to upload first and trust second. We thought that was the wrong way round, so we moved the model into the browser.
The idea
Background removal used to be a server job because the models were too big to ship to a browser. That stopped being true. A matting model now fits comfortably into a browser tab and runs on the graphics hardware already sitting in the machine you are reading this on.
Once that is true, uploading is a choice rather than a requirement — and it is a choice with real costs. It means a queue. It means a rate limit. It means your product photography, your client portraits and your unreleased packaging designs land in someone else's bucket, covered by a retention policy you have to take on trust.
So we do not do it. The free preview is decoded, matted and composited on your device. There is no upload step to opt out of, because there is no upload step.
The honest caveat
Paid exports do involve our servers. That is where a credit is checked and a full-resolution file is produced. We could claim a blanket "we are private" and hope nobody read closely; the narrower claim is more useful and it is one you can actually verify.
Open your browser's network panel, drop in a photograph, and watch the free preview complete without a single request carrying your image. That takes about ten seconds and it is worth more than any amount of copy on this page.
How we charge
Previews are free and unmetered, because they cost us nothing. One credit buys one full-resolution export with no watermark. Every credit expires 90 days from the day it is granted — we put that on the pricing page in the largest type on the page rather than in a footnote, because expiring credits are the thing people most often discover too late.
No VAT is added at checkout. The price shown is the price charged.
What we are not
- Not a photo editor. We remove backgrounds and put new ones behind the subject. We do not retouch, colour-grade or generate imagery, and adding those would make this worse at the one thing it does.
- Not a stock library. The backdrop scenes are a convenience. Real work uses your own backdrop, which is why uploading one is a first-class feature rather than an upsell.
- Not an AI image generator. Nothing here invents pixels that were not in your photograph. The subject that comes out is the subject that went in.

Credit where it is due
